India’s half-hour zone dates back to colonial rule of India and the era when ever-faster steamships and trains were shrinking the world. The start of the 20th century saw some push from scientific associations to calibrate India’s time to GMT. That recommendation was rejected by the colonial government, which opted for a unified time that sat squarely in the middle: five and a half hours ahead of GMT. In 2015, North Korea moved out of sync with South Korea by creating “Pyongyang Time,” putting the country eight and a half hours ahead of GMT instead of nine. India’s colonial-era time zone decision making, however, reflected a chorus of political, scientific and commercial voices both from within the government and outside of it, Gordon says.

Four stocks in the Stoxx Europe 600 index tend to rise alongside Nvidia shares, according to an analysis of share price data by CNBC Pro . The European stocks are also semiconductor focused companies: ASML, VAT Group, ASM International , and BE Semiconductor Industries . The share price performances of these technology stocks were highly correlated to Nvidia's over the past year. However, unlike the AI chip giant's 210% share price increase over the past 12 months, these stocks rose relatively moderately between 40% and 85%. A correlation of zero would indicate no statistical link between the chip maker's stock and the share price of the four companies.

CNN —A court in Iran has sentenced acclaimed movie director Mohammad Rasoulof to eight years in prison and flogging for national security crimes, his lawyer said on Wednesday. The writer-director’s latest work, “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” is due to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France next week. According to Paknia, some also alleged they were asked by officials to tell Rasoulof to withdraw the film from the festival. “Once again, the judiciary’s verdict against Mohammad Rasoulof proved that the law is only a playground for stubbornness and revenge in the legal system contaminated by government jurisprudence,” it said. “Independent and freedom-loving cinematographers condemn the invalid judgment of the judiciary against Mohammad Rasoulof and stand by him and all the artists who make fun of government censorship.”

Could Trump's next courtroom outburst or gag-violating Truth Social post really be the final straw that gets him locked up on contempt of court? "You get more due process" when you commit an act of contempt outside the courtroom, Levine said. "It's when the judge calls the court officers and tells them to surround the defendant so that he doesn't try to walk out of the courtroom." AdvertisementBut Trump already has at least two court officers standing behind him at all times in Merchan's courtroom, for his own protection. Reality will instead set in when the judge gives what's usually the final instruction to the court officers, "Take charge," Galluzzo said.

Will McDonough, CEO of merchant bank Corestone Capital, says he has "not seen this level of interest and conversation on copper." CNN —A suspect has been indicted in relation to the deaths of two Australian brothers and an American, who died during a surfing trip in Mexico, according to Baja California’s Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was indicted on a charge of forced disappearance in the case involving the three tourists, whose bodies were found last week dumped in a 50-foot well with gunshot wounds to the head. While Baja California has been plagued by drug cartel violence in recent years, it rarely occurs in tourist areas like Ensenada. Dozens of people held a protest last week in Ensenada calling on authorities to do more to tackle violence facing tourists and locals alike. While parts of Mexico are established tourist destinations, violent crime including kidnapping and human trafficking plague parts of the country, particularly in border areas.

Lawson’s, one of Japan’s largest convenience store chains, has an outpost in the small town of Fujikawaguchiko. Tourists have flooded into Fujikawaguchiko to take one specific picture – a shot of Mount Fuji behind a Lawson’s store, where the mountain’s classic elegance contrasts with the store’s modern neon signage. Although Lawson’s has not encouraged visitors to take pictures of their store, the company nevertheless issued a statement addressing the issue on May 5. Many of them headed to the same destinations, crowding Kyoto’s narrow streets and the walking trails of Mount Fuji. And Lawson’s is not the only Japanese tourist destination that has resorted to putting up signs warning visitors of bad behaviors.

The annual challenge is a great example of ways kids can use digital tools "before, during and after" going outside to increase their connection to nature, says Galle. The point isn't to encourage kids to run around parks with screens in their faces, she notes: Rather, it's "an easy, educational way to get the kids outside, immersed in their environment, and learning something." EarthSnapThis nature identification app uses a smartphone or tablet's camera to identify more than two million different plants, animals, bugs and other aspects of nature. Tools like EarthSnap are useful for nurturing kids' interest in nature, especially if you aren't an expert outdoorsperson yourself, says Galle. Try using the app as a family, Galle advises: Kids often learn behaviors from their parents.
